I couldn’t help but laugh this past weekend when my husband and son came home from a fishing trip with friends. They had caught several fish and decided to clean them. Since my husband doesn’t fish often, I knew that we didn’t have any fillet knives but I didn’t offer any suggestions as to what they should use to clean the fish. I figured they could come up with something and their something turned out to be a great source of entertainment for me. As I followed behind them so they could tell me about their trip, I saw my husband grab several fixed blade knives out of the kitchen that I assumed he was about to use to filet the fish with. Sure enough, that was what his plans were, but he found out quickly that while the fixed blade knives would work for cleaning the fish, it wouldn’t work for filleting them. Needless to say, filleting a fish is an art form and it’s one that he needs practice with, and the fish looked more butchered than anything else. Needless to say, someone will be getting fillet knives for Christmas this year.
